Introduction of Digital Access Apps

The long-established trucker card at all Hamburg container terminals is now a thing of the past. It has been replaced by two new apps designed to make processing more modern, simpler, and more secure. This transition is also taking place against the backdrop of increasing drug smuggling cases in the Port of Hamburg. As reported by the press, the number of smuggling discoveries has significantly increased, and customs and federal police regularly conduct large-scale operations.

To develop its Passify app, HHLA founded its own subsidiary, Passify GmbH, to manage the implementation internally. Eurogate, on the other hand, opted for an external, experienced service provider and commissioned Conroo GmbH from Nuremberg. Conroo has already made a name for itself through digital gate processing at Deutsche Bahn’s intermodal terminals.

The transition proceeded largely smoothly. We had the opportunity to participate in the pilot phases of both systems, allowing us to voice our concerns early. Nevertheless, the transition was a major challenge for our drivers, as the procedures have changed. For example, the appropriate app must be selected for the respective terminal, and multiple QR codes need to be scanned on-site.
